Director I, Community Engagement

Morehouse School of Medicine

This is a Full-time position in Atlanta, GA posted March 27, 2021.

The Community Engagement Lead is responsible for the development and nurturing of community relationships for the National COVID -19 Resiliency Network ( NCRN ) Project. The person serving in this capacity will foster a positive image, promote beneficial engagement and encourages multi-channel engagement that resonates with diverse populations across the United States. Individual will provide strategic direction behind the creative development of a highly integrated, evidence-based COVID -19 public education community engagement strategy. Individual responsible for engagement strategy from inception to execution.

Funded by the U.S. Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health, the NCRN will develop and coordinate a strategic and structured network of national, state/territorial/tribal and local public and community-based organizations that will mitigate the impact of COVID -19 on racial and ethnic minority, rural and socially vulnerable populations through: (1) the coordinated development and dissemination of culturally and linguistically diverse information; (2) dissemination of information on available COVID -19 testing and vaccination, other healthcare, and social services, especially in geographic communities highly impacted by COVID -19 and at highest risk for adverse outcomes; and (3) dissemination of effective strategies for COVID -19 response, recovery, and resilience.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Health Communication, or Strategic Communication
• 8-10 years of relevant experience and competencies in Community Engagement and Management.
• Ability to understand complex research (qualitative/quantitative) and distill findings into clear, strategic insights;
• Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with cross-functional teams;
• Proven ability to quickly identify problems and solve them.
• Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with tight deadlines.
• Microsoft Office proficiency including Excel, PowerPoint.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong communications implementation skills, detail, and deadline- oriented.
• Strong project management, negotiation, strategic thinking, and analytical skills.
• Ability to think creatively and provide innovative solutions to communication challenges/problems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and team members.
• Ability to travel may be required.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

• Provide strategic vision and direction for increasing community participation within key groups across the United States.
• Identify key engagement goals, objectives and tactics in alignment with national project
• Manage the creation and execution of an overall cohesive community engagement framework which meet the goals at the national level while ensuring a community-based approach.
• Foster national, regional, and local collaborative relationships with organizations to ensure engagement and partnership pathways to secure participation from all key communities outlined by the project.
• Keep informed on COVID -19 to ensure all relevant information is integrated in engagement strategy
• Provide relevant skills-building training and/or tools to all partner organizations to assist them in carrying the project objectives
• Work with project colleagues, other staff and consultants to align engagement strategy with communication strategy
• Establish ongoing community feedback mechanisms to increase responsiveness to community needs and to develop best practices
• Work with policy team and research team to share insights regarding community engagement during a public health crisis.
• Represent the organization at various events, on committees, at meetings, etc, as appropriate.
• Assist in budget development and provide projections and recommendations.
• Manage community engagement coordinator.

Community Engagement Research Responsibilities
• Inform the development of research plans by providing strategic input on formative research design for testing best practices for engagement among members representative of the target audience segments.
• Inform the evaluation framework for community engagement tools and services.
• Develop, implement, track, and report project community engagement performance metrics and measures
• Collaborate to evaluate and interpret the effectiveness of National COVID -19 Resiliency Network engagement strategies by reviewing data, outlining implications, and developing recommendations.
