Emory University is seeking a Director of Academic Technology Services focused on Teaching and Learning Technologies who will report to the Associate Dean, Academic Technologies at Emory University Libraries.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is a leadership position which includes 4 direct reports providing technical infrastructure and direct support to faculty, staff, and campus administrators to accomplish teaching and learning objectives using appropriate technology.

Primary focus is on supporting the technology infrastructure for Emory’s Learning Management System (Canvas) and associated external applications that extend the core functionality of the LMS.

The Director, Academic Technology
– Teaching & Learning Technologies works closely with the larger Academic Technologies management team to establish the strategic direction for excellent academic technology adoption and use, and advocates for a consistent academic technology experience in teaching and learning across campus.

This position requires building deep relationships and working in close coordination with faculty, librarians, academic and campus administrators across all University schools and colleges.

  • Manage the large-scale support and development of the campus learning management system and integrated tools.
  • Coordinate and manage enterprise integrations with the campus learning management system and associated external applications, including SIS feeds, security certificates, identity management, single-sign on, storage, and other related connectors.
  • Manage learning management system data, including storage, workflows, analysis, and presentation.
  • Lead daily operations and communicate with internal and external team members regarding required and completed tasks, outline project plans, and provide status reports.
  • Manage critical relationships and collaborations with other support entities within the libraries, across campus, and across the broader information and instructional technology community.
  • Strategically engage with vendors and external consortia to support development and implementation of LMS integration standards.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Seven years of academic technology related experience which includes using Library & IT resources in support of the academic program of a college or university, college or university teaching experience, and budget management and supervisory experience.
  • A master’s degree is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience supporting Canvas or similar LMS infrastructure preferred.
  • A graduate degree in Instructional Technology, Information Technology, or related field is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex technology design projects in a higher education environment; ability to deal with multiple constituencies in a dynamic work environment
  • Experience managing and motivating a team, where significant initiative and direction are required.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.

Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
