Join us and make a difference.nn nnLeidos is looking for a top notch Senior Paralegal to perform a variety of direct legal support services, in support of one of our federal agency customers in Atlanta, GA.nn nn This position is expected to start on June 1, 2021.

However, employment is contingent on ability to successfully obtain a minimum of a Public Trust Waiver prior to your start date as well as the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Suitability Determination for the duration of this positionnn nnOvertime and travel may be required as needed with proper authorization.

Individual may support any division/section within depending on the needs of the office at time of hire.nn nnResponsible for directly and independently supporting one to three Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance services.

The work requires a specialized knowledge of the processes, procedures, and practices of paralegal activities in conjunction with knowledge of paralegal skills and an ability to apply these skills to increase the effectiveness of the assigned AUSAs.nn nnTypical assignments include the following but not limited to:nn nnWorks under the direction of AUSAs.

Following established guidelines, gathers, prepares, analyzes and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in preparation for interviews; to assist with drafting opinions, briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents; and to facilitate discussions and negotiations with opposing counsel.

Summarizes depositions and other transcripts; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks, and controls exhibits and other materials at depositions and trial.nn nnProvides technical assistance to attorneys with e-discovery platforms and document review systems.nn nnProvides assistance to attorneys in trial preparation by performing duties such as independently compiling trial notebooks, assembling jury instructions, and compiling witness and exhibit lists.

Coordinates with the victim/witness specialist to ensure adherence to current Departmental guidelines relating to victims’ rights and services responsibilities.

Notifies appropriate individuals of victim/witness issues.nn nnProvides automated litigation assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations.

Utilizes various software applications and graphics hardware such as scanners and plotters.

Prepares documents, charts, and visual materials for use in trials.

Provides technical support e.g., enlarging charts and photographs, duplicating tapes and videos, and marking exhibits.nn nnUsing original and online legal resources, verifies citations and statutory references contained in legal documents.

Ensures citations are complete and consistent with source material.nn nnDevelops tables of contents and indices to briefs in accordance with established format.

Lists cited cases, opinions and miscellaneous references in briefs.nn nnComposes original letters that do not require legal interpretations, but do require a good working knowledge of legal procedures and specialized terminology, e.g., transmittal of pleadings, requests for extensions of time in certain cases, advising of actions taken or developments in cases referred by other federal departments and agencies, and notices to attorneys representing defendants.nn nnProduces a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications.

For example, assignments may include integrating output from different software types, e.g., tables produced by database applications and charts and graphs produced by electronic spreadsheet applications, into word processing or desk top publishing text.

Products include complicated tables, graphs and charts which may be incorporated into legal documents or courtroom presentations.

Ensures proper format, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.nn nnThe above mentioned duties may be performed as single functions or in combination with one another.nn nn Basic Qualifications: nn nn
– Excellent written and oral communication skills.

nn nn
– Paralegal certificate, Juris Doctorate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.nn nn
– At least two years of litigation paralegal experience.nn nn
– At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.

– Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.nn nn
– Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.

nn nn
– Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.

nn nn
– Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

nn nn
– Experience preparing discovery requests (interrogatories, production of documents, etc…), drafting subpoenas, simple pleadings and filing of pleadings.nn nn
– Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.

– Some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office itemsnn nn
– Ability to obtain a security clearance.nn nn
– Must be a U.S.

– Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications, is strongly preferred.nn nn
– Experience reviewing documents for facts/information pertaining to substantive issues, strongly preferred.nn nn
– Experience organizing large document productions including preparing detailed inventory of documents, strongly preferred.nn nn
– Knowledge of Casemap, strongly preferred.nn nn
– Trial experience, helpful.nn nn
