Company Introduction:
Ideation, formerly known as H&F Bread CO, was started in 2008 by James Beard Award-winning Chef Linton Hopkins and his long-time friend and entrepreneur Joe Best. Starting with a single baker and three assistants operating in a 1,800-square foot facility to fill a niche, supplying great bread to restaurants who wanted “To enhance the dining experience with artisan baked goods of the highest quality and consistency with a focus on food safety and compliance”. That later became our Mission Statement.
As a steward of delivering consistent quality baked products to the marketplace, H&F received significant awards, including Top 10 Bakeries in the US by Bon Appetit Magazine, One of the Top Bakeries in the South by Southern Living One of our Head Bakers won Top 10 Bakers by Dessert Professional Magazine
In 2018 we acquired the former La Petite in Marietta and opened up our first co-manufacturing facility focusing on Gluten-Free and Allergen-free baked goods for clients who wanted to expand their current products into the marketplace.
When the pandemic hit in 2020 the fresh-baked business that had been in existence for years took a significant loss in just 1 week. In true H&F style, we did not let that hold us back from growing and were able to capitalize on what we were doing well at and expanded the co-manufacturing business to encompass both locations providing our clients with almost 90,000 sq ft of manufacturing space. It also allowed us to rebrand ourselves into Ideation.

Shift Manager Job Description

A Shift Manager is a key Management level position in our bakery. They are valuable members of the leadership team focused on managing the assigned departments assigned tasks to ensure company efficiency and partner satisfaction. This is accomplished by ensuring that the planned production is produced and packed in the most efficient and timely way possible, and that all required materials, documentation, and POS are completed and filed accordingly. This position requires the ability to act as a member of a highly functioning team and will be responsible for multiple projects, lines, and have high level oversight of very detailed daily projects.

Essential Functions:

• Review weekly schedule when published to determine the weeks production requirements. Utilize this information to schedule the correct staffing needs, identify machinery needed to successfully produce or package items, order and identify key material/supplies needed to reduce downtime and maximize efficiency.

• Works with management to achieve the Production/Packing potential for Ideation.

• Recommends improvements in current methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

• Detects and reports defective parts or questionable conditions to management.

• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures.

• Follow and comply with all safety protocols including those set forth by GMPs, SQF, OSHA, and all other industry standards as outlined by management and the government.

• Ensure par levels of necessary supplies are inventoried and on stock

• All functions and duties following written and verbal instructions.

• Requires all positions to utilize basic computer software for scheduling, requesting time off, setting up and maintaining pay and personal information as set forth by HR.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provide employee coaching, counseling through feedback, training, and development. Coach and counsel employees; discuss performance with Managers.

• Uses the daily schedule to delegate tasks out to assigned team members.

• Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve results in all areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas.

• Assist in tracking and informing of inventory levels including current levels of WIP on hand.

• Help manage department priorities.

• Help track absenteeism and timekeeping with daily attendance and line ups.

Reporting Responsibilities (Additional reports will be required with the development of business)

• All Food safety and Compliance documents:

o Pre-operational, post-operational, and cleaning checklist

o All additional documents as required by QA

• Quotas / output reports:

o Assists in or does daily reports such as MODs

o Assists or does reporting in Flexibake as assigned and authorized by company

• Assist in Inventory reports

• Adheres to a process with a defined preventative control program.

Qualifications: Previous management experience required.

• Ability to learn bakery packing methods and standards and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage quickly.

• Demonstrates advanced math and counting skills.

• Must be able to stand and walk for an 8-hour day; lifting up to 80 lbs.

• Position will require the ability to bend, stoop, and twist, pull, push, reach above shoulder level, wheel product in, out and around the bakery environment to operate machinery safely utilizing fingers, wrist, hands, arms, and legs.

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to frequent changes that occur on the packing line.

• Must be able to speak read and write in English.

• Performs other duties which are deemed by management to be an integral part of the job, including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies and procedures as outlined.

Hours and Compensation: 

• Position: Full-Time

• Must have open availability including nights, weekends, and holidays.
