The COO is responsible for driving the development of the ambulatory market strategy and operationalizing the associated clinical care delivery operational plan of Emory Healthcare and its subsidiary’s physician practices.
Key responsibilities include strategic/operational planning; business/program development; financial management; administrative management of clinical operations; environmental safety; facilities management.
The COO ensures high quality patient care and services, including management of patient flow/access, coordination of ancillary services and enhancement of patient support and service improvement.
In addition, the COO works collaboratively with the Emory Healthcare Network Chief Executive Officer on the development and execution of the population management initiatives and strategy.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Provides leadership and direction to practice administrators, management and staff of all Emory Physician Group Practices (The Emory Clinic and Emory Specialty Associates).
Responsible for achieving strategic, financial and operational objectives for assigned business entities to ensure seamless integration of physician practices within all Emory Healthcare entities.
Emory Healthcare’s Physician Group Practices encompasses over 182 locations across Georgia, including 70 medical and surgical specialties, with over 1,700 physicians and 957 advanced practice providers, with 3,900 employees.
The practices represent over $1.05B in net revenue with approximately 4.87M patient encounters annually, with a large shared services call center and patient access platform comprising of 4.5M patient calls.

This position reports directly to the Physician Director, Emory Clinic and Co-Clinical Dyad of Emory Healthcare.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establishes business plans to support disciplined and aligned growth.
Gives direction and guidance to Department and Practice Administrators, management and staff to achieve the priorities and goals.

Ensures appropriate infrastructure and resources to support excellence in the patient and family experience.
Responsible for succession planning to sustain and enhance operational excellence.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 10 years of experience managing large multi-specialty physician practices, with reputation for great service and demonstrated quality outcomes.
Master’s degree in Business Administration and/or Health Administration required.
Experience effectively leading both academic/faculty practice plans and primary care physician groups highly desirable.
Demonstrated success in executing physician practice growth strategies in highly competitive markets required.
