Company Summary VoltAir, Inc, founded in 2006, is an engineering firm that provides Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Information Technology design and commissioning services.

In addition, we also provide Design-Build Electrical Contracting services to our clients through our electrical constructors group.

We operate in seven locations in Tampa, Orlando, and Ft.

Lauderdale, Florida; also, in Dallas and Houston, Texas; as well as Atlanta, Georgia and Nashville, Tennessee.

Position Overview The Fire Protection Engineer II will apply their professional and technical expertise to designing fire protection engineering concepts and options that align with the owner’s vision for each project.

This individual should have a solid understanding of the consulting engineering process and the contractual documents which are involved.

Responsibilities include but not limited to Determine the scope of assigned fire protection projects and utilize software programs to create the engineering designs based on the interpretation of blueprints and specifications of contract documents.

Determine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications; select and schedule equipment with limited oversight.

Verify (NFPA) code compliance of the system designs.

Provide engineering documents of fire sprinkler layout consistent with NFPA 13 standards; along with fire standpipe and fire pump systems consistent with NFPA 14 and NFPA 20 standards.

Preparation and layout of BIM drawings of complex equipment and piping areas in coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design, design development, permitting, and construction documents phases.

Perform construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, studies, quality control and shop drawing reviews, and preparation of punch lists on multiple projects.

Field inspections and analysis to upgrade and correct existing system problems.

Maintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items.

Miscellaneous duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be based in the Atlanta, GA area and authorized to work in the United States High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering preferred At least 5 years of experience in fire protection engineering design of commercial buildings preferably in aviation, higher education, health care, hospitality, entertainment, or governmental facilities Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred; registration should be in the state(s) in which projects will be constructed Minimum 2 years of experience coordinating multi-discipline engineering teams Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methods Knowledge of local, state, and national codes, including other aspects of laws, regulations, and potential liabilities affecting the practice of engineering Revit MEP proficiency required, and familiarity with other engineering software programs Highly proficient technical/computer skills including Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Work, Excel), internet and web applications Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, written, or in graphic form Ability to prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications Must have the technical knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively evaluate various mechanical engineering options for configuration of equipment and components Experienced with cost containment and reduction approaches and the capability of providing appropriate relative costs of different engineering approaches Skills and Competencies Uses resources efficiently, strives to reduce cost Strong conflict management abilities a good listener, committed to finding solution to problems, works to address difficulties Comfortable maintaining professional relationships with clients, vendors, code officials, etc.
